Southern New Jersey offers plenty of scenic views and fresh ocean breezes that blow in from area waters. South New Jersey offers plenty of attractions such as the Marine Mammal Stranding Museum, Cape May Lighthouse (walk 199 steps to reach the top), and Ocean City (a family resort). Being so close to the water, there is also a vast variety of seafood restaurants available that offer fresh seafood along with the old classics as well.

Klein's Fish Market Waterside

Klein's restaurant is located near the Shark River in Belmar, New Jersey. The Kleins began the fish market back in 1928 and have operated as a family business ever since. A large selection of seafood, sushi bar and pasta dishes are served at Klein's Fish Market. Other dishes served include chicken, steak, soups and salads. There are two optional dining areas available at the restaurant. You can choose to sit in the Grill Room, where you can order small plate dinners such as roasted clams or an iced seafood sampler or dine on fresh grilled fish such as salmon, mahi mahi or a red snapper. For an outdoor dining experience, you can also eat at the Waterside Cafe and enjoy a sushi and raw bar along with other seafood selections that include lobster or shrimp appetizers. Lunch and dinner is served Mondays through Saturdays. A brunch is offered on Sundays. During the months of October through April, Kleins is closed on Mondays.

Barnacle Bill's

Barnacle Bill's atmosphere and decor is designed to look like you are dining on an old ship. A large old ship steering wheel hangs upon the wall with a sign above that reads "Island Venture." An assortment of live music is also played throughout the evenings featuring area talent. Appetizers at Barnacle Bills include shrimp cocktail, smoked trout and Barnacle Bill's hot wings. You can also order a variety of entrees such as fresh flounder, fresh steamed lobster, chicken and shrimp scampi or a New York sirloin steak. Salads, side order vegetables and soups are also offered. To end your meal, you can try desserts such as homemade cheesecake, homemade apple cake or sweet sugary orange sherbet. Barnacle Bill's is open for dinner Monday through Thursdays. Friday through Sundays it is open for lunch and dinner.

Old Bay Restaurant

The Old Bay Restaurant is located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. It's restaurant serves a New Orleans-style menu. It offers gourmet French Creole, Cajun cuisine, seafood, and steak. After 10 p.m. guests can enjoy live music and plenty to drink. The decor of the restaurant is Mardi Gras inspired. House specialties include seafood jambalaya, pecan crusted catfish and stuffed sole with lobster sauce . For a bit of Cajun taste, you may select options such as shrimp creole and chicken and sausage jambalaya. The Old Bay is open for dinner Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Sundays. The bar, along with a late night menu, is also offered in the evenings.
