From ski slopes to hiking trails, Boone, North Carolina has everything a nature lover could want. If you're vacationing here and want to stay in a campground cabin, there are plenty of choices in this area. After you make yourself at home in a cozy wooden cabin, head out to explore sites like Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns and Blowing Rock, or be adventurous and try out whitewater rafting, canoeing or horseback riding.

Honey Bear Campground and Nature Center

Located right off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Boone, Honey Bear Campground and Nature Center offers many amenities and activities for the whole family. They have several cabins that sleep four to six people, and at least one of them is located by the stream that runs through the campground. The cabins include fully equipped kitchens, cable TV with DVD players and bathrooms with showers. They also have outdoor firepits and picnic tables, and some include porches with large swings. Here you can keep everyone in the family busy, from fly fishing, horseback riding and hiking in the summer, to ice skating and skiing in the colder months. Honey Bear Campground is open from March 15 until November 15.

Grandfather Campground

Grandfather Campground is open year round, and it offers RV and tent sites as well as a variety of cabins. You'll find all different levels of luxury in the accommodations here. The Camping Cabin sleeps a maximum of seven people and has power and heat, but no indoor plumbing, while the Cozy Cabin is a 12- by 12-foot building that sleeps up to four and includes a bathroom, shower, and kitchenette, but no stove or TV. Grandfather Campground also offers the Small Cabin and one- and two-bedroom cabins that have all the amenities, including cable TV and fireplaces. Pets are not allowed in any of the cabins. On the campground's 100 acres you'll find miles of hiking trails, a variety of wildlife and great fishing in the Watauga River as well as in the on-site stocked trout pond.

Boone KOA

The Boone KOA is the highest one east of the Mississippi, at nearly 4,000 feet, and it's located right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. This KOA offers both cabins with full amenities including bathrooms and showers, and one- and two-room "kabins," that are more rustic and do not include indoor plumbing. All of the cabins sleep up to four people and include a full bed and a set of bunk beds. There is an outdoor swimming pool here that is open from May 24 to September 8, and they also have a mini-golf course on site. Nearby are many opportunities for outdoors enthusiats, from hiking the local trails to whitewater rafting or canoeing on the New River. The Boone KOA is open April through October.
