Fergus Falls lies within Otter Tail County in the west central region of Minnesota on the banks of the Ottertail River. With more than 1,000 lakes in the county, Fergus Falls offers many opportunities for outdoor recreational activities. Enthusiasts can enjoy hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, boating, fishing and much more in the surrounding area. Campers will find many secluded and wooded campsites situated along one of the area's lakes.

Swan Lake Resort & Campground

Swan Lake Resort & Campground is situated along the shores of the 689-acre Swan Lake. The 17-acre campground offers large, shaded campsites in a heavily wooded setting. There are 12 tent campsites situated away from the RV's, with some lakefront, that have a picnic table and fire ring. Water and electricity is not included with these sites. There are 28 campsites with water and electric. The campground has restrooms, showers, picnic tables and a camping store. The campground has a boat launch for fishing in Swan Lake, and guests can use the campground's paddle boats, canoes or kayaks for no charge. The 55-mile Central Lake Trail runs adjacent to the campground. Nature enthusiasts are approximately 10 miles from the Orwell Wildlife Area.

Delagoon Park

Operated by the county, DeLagoon Park is located on the shores of Pebble Lake, which offers opportunities for fishing, boating and swimming. The campground, situated on 196 wooded acres, has 22 campsites for tent campers that have no water or electricity, but have a picnic table, fire ring and are private and secluded. There are 14 campsites with water and electricity. The campground has a restroom but no shower facilities. Amenities include a playground and boat launch, and pets are accepted. Bikers and hikers can use the park's trail. The ending trailhead to the 55-mile Central Lakes Trail lies within the park. Adams/Grotto Lake is approximately five miles away, which is home to the largest river otter population in the world and offers opportunities to fish, boat and explore the wildlife area.

Elks Point Campground

The Elks Point Campground, located on 25 acres on the shores of Wall Lake, is operated by the Elk's Club and approximately five miles from Fergus Falls. Open from May through September, the campground has 25 large, shady, wooded campsites that have water, electric, fire pit and picnic table. The campground has restrooms, showers, dump station, playground, and a bar and restaurant. Elk's Club members receive a camping discount. A boat launch at the campground is available for fishing in Wall Lake. The campground is approximately five miles from River Walk Park's one-mile hiking trail along the Ottertail River. The 200-mile Pine to Prairie Birding Trail is located within the city limits of Fergus Falls.
