Restaurants in Suffolk, New York
Suffolk, the easternmost county of New York state---way out at the end of Long Island---is a haven for outdoors enthusiasts, especially those who adore cycling through long stretches of farmland, open water sea kayaking and hikes along the beach. Surrounded on three sides by the ocean, Suffolk residents and vacationers from New York City have come to expect the freshest of seafood and produce, creative menus and extraordinary service at Suffolk's restaurants.

East by Northeast

At the tip of Long Island, hike the trails of Montauk Point State Park and the Hither Woods Preserve, drinking in the fresh air and expansive views of the Atlantic Ocean. Freshen up and then treat your appetite to a relaxed dinner at East by Northeast where fresh Montauk fish, shellfish and succulent steaks share the menu with produce from local farms. Asian seasoning is infused in many of the dishes, complementing the crisp flavors. Order a tower from the raw bar or select clams, shrimp, oysters and crab by the piece. Sip wine by the glass or a specialty cocktail, and save room for a lavish dessert.

Fresno Restaurant

Steps away from Bermuda Bikes Plus---where vacationers rent bicycles by the day, week or for the season---Fresno serves up New American cuisine in the village of East Hampton. The menu is designed to highlight the delicate flavors of locally-sourced food. Open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday, the restaurant offers both a standard and prix fixe menu that changes often to feature the freshest seasonal vegetables, fruit, meat and seafood. The signature Fresno Cataplana mussels, shrimp and local littleneck clams are prepared in a spicy tomato broth and served with a saffron rouille and crostini. In the summer, large French doors open out onto a patio for outdoor dining.

Tweeds Restaurant & Buffalo Bar

Tweeds offers a casual atmosphere and hearty meal after a paddle tour of the Peconic River. Less than five minutes from the riverfront and the Peconic Paddler---where sea kayaks and canoes may be rented Fridays through Sunday---the historic restaurant is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. Lean, succulent bison meat, raised on the owner's own nearby farm, is the star ingredient on the menu. Fresh fish, local duck, crab cakes and shellfish round out the meal options. Sample the Long Island clam chowder with its clear broth, and check out the original Tweeds Bistro Salad with mixed greens, apples, beets, blue cheese and candied walnuts. The Victorian décor, mahogany bar and mounted buffalo head set the mood for relaxation.
