Waterfront Restaurants in Westchester, New York

Waterfront Restaurants in Westchester, New York
Once considered just a bedroom community of New York City, Westchester County has grown into a vibrant center of commerce and culture with plenty to offer travelers to the area. Golf, hiking, fishing and sailing are all readily available in the county, and the city of White Plains offers business-oriented meeting centers as well as museums and live theater. Travelers to Westchester County will also be pleased to find that in addition to fine dining in the heart of the county, there are a number of restaurants that offer waterfront views for any special occasion.

Striped Bass

Tarrytown lies on the edge of the Hudson River and is the landing point for the picturesque Tappan Zee Bridge. It is also home to Striped Bass, a restaurant with weather-appropriate outdoor seating, a casual atmosphere and live music both during the week and on weekends. The menu offers a wide range of seafood, and includes appetizers such as braised Prince Edward Island mussels and blackened salmon salad. Entrees include Pocono Mountain broiled trout, blackened center cut swordfish and seafood ravioli. Striped Bass also offers a raw bar that includes top neck clams and blue point oysters and an "assorted shellfish tower" composed of clams, oysters, shrimp and lobster.

Offering expansive waterfront views of the Hudson River from its terrace, Red Hat on the River also includes a bistro-style bar area, a more formal dining room, and a second level of dining in the upstairs loft. The menu is rustic seasonal and includes a mix of seafood, fowl and game. Appetizers include house-made rillettes of sliced confit of pork and duck served with pickled red onions, and entrees include pan-roasted natural Amish farm chicken as well as prime Colorado lamb shank.

Fox Island Seafood House

The Fox Island Fish House overlooks the Byram River on the eastern side of Westchester County. Diners are offered the opportunity to enjoy dinner al fresco on the open deck when weather permits, or they may head inside to enjoy the Mediterranean-style seafood menu and "crispy, thin crust Tuscan style pizzas" baked in a wood-burning oven. The atmosphere is casual, but there is also space for those who wish to book larger, formal parties. Appetizers include a crispy tuna flatbread with wasabi mascarpone, and entrees include a porcini dusted hake, Colorado Springs striped bass and a crispy skinned Scottish salmon. There is also a raw bar, and chicken and braised short ribs are available for meat lovers as well.

At night the atmosphere becomes even livelier with patrons on their way to and from the boardwalk and the adjacent Playland amusement park.
