Elberton, Georgia is named after Revolutionary War General Samuel Elbert. Also called the "Granite Capital of the World," Elberton leads in producing granite monuments worldwide. Visitors not only enjoy the area's attractions, including granite monuments and historical homes, but also for the fishing lakes such as the 55,590-acre Lake Hartwell and 70,000-acre Clarks Hill Lake. Many campgrounds are located right by the water providing easy access to many water activities.

Richard B. Russell State Park

This state park has campsites for tents and RVs as well as cottages and a group shelter. Set on a 26,500-acre lake, the camp provides easy access to water activities like swimming, fishing and boating. The cottages are fully-equipped and are located right by the water. Tent and RV sites have full hookups and cable TV. The camp also features a loop nature trail for hikers as well as canoe and pedal boat rental. Other activities on-site include golf, water-skiing and rowing, beach volleyball and bicycling.

Bobby Brown State Outdoor Recreation Area

Bobby Brown Park offers 61 tent, trailer and RV campsites. Amenities include electrical hookups, boat ramp, comfort station with hot showers, picnic area and 1.9 miles of hiking trails. The park spans 665 acres and is situated along the 70,000-acre Clarks Hill Lake offering many water activities such as boating, fishing and skiing. The park also has a self-guided land navigation compass courses. Nearby attractions include Georgia's Classic South and Granite Museum.

Hart State Outdoor Recreation Area

Hart State Outdoor Recreation Area offers 78 tent and RV campsites right by the shore with amenities such as water and electric hookups, some with full hookups. The park also has shower facilities and a boat ramp. Hart State has 147 acres of land with nature trails for hiking. Campers can also go fishing at the 55,590-acre Lake Hartwell for mouth bass, bream, rainbow trout hybrid bass, striper, black crappie and wall-eyed pike. Water-skiing is available as well. Those who enjoy golf can visit Brazell's Creek Golf Course at Victoria Bryant 19 miles away.
