Gaylord is in central northern Michigan and surrounded by several state forests and lakes. Campers will find a variety of campground options ranging from full hookups to rustic, which are conveniently close to fishing in Otsego Lake and Big Bear Lake, as well as hiking in Big Bear Lake State Forest.

Otsego Lake State Park

Otsego Lake State Park is a 62-acre park that offers 155 campsites on Otsego Lake. Sites include electric, a picnic table and a fire ring. Facility amenities include modern restrooms, a beach house, a picnic shelter and a concession stand that is open on weekends. The park has a half mile of beach on Otsego Lake where guests can sunbathe and swim. There is also a boat launch, fishing pier and hiking trails.

Gaylord KOA

Gaylord KOA is less then five miles south of downtown Gaylord in 70 acres of northern pine forest. The campground offers a variety of sites, which include full hookups, partial hookups or rustic setting. All sites include a picnic table and fire ring. Other amenities include cable TV, free wireless Internet and modern restrooms with private showers. Recreation amenities include a large outdoor pool with sun deck, mini-golf course and two playgrounds as well as an arcade, recreation room and shuffleboard court. Hiking trails are throughout the property and surrounding forest.

Big Bear Lake State Forest Campground

Big Bear Lake State Forest Campground is 10 miles southeast of Gaylord on Big Bear Lake. It offers 30 campsites on the lakeshore that are rustic with vault toilets and a central water hand pump. The campground has a large sandy beach where visitors can sunbathe or swim. Big Bear Lake provides fishing, a boat launch and a fishing pier. The park also has a two-mile hiking trail through the surrounding forest and along the lakeshore.
