Decatur, Illinois sits along the shores of Lake Decatur and the Sangamon River. Visit Rock Springs Conservation Area just four miles south of town. Spring water flows naturally from the Rock Springs and a bottling plant used to be there. Today, only the ruins of the plant still exist, but it is an interesting historical center. Spend the day fishing or boating on Lake Decatur. Decatur is home to Millikin University which is an independent four-year university with over 2,000 students. Whether you are hungry from outdoor recreation or hitting the books hard for study, Decatur offers a variety of dining experiences.

The Decatur Beach House

The Decatur Beach House sits on Lake Decatur and has views of the water. The menus features fresh ingredients with seafood that is flown in from the Eastern seaboard. Lunch menus feature starters such as gumbo and calamari. Several salads and soups are offered daily and have creative touches such as pretzel encrusted chicken breasts. A variety of sandwiches and sides are options. Dinners offer starters, salads and soups before entree options. Fresh seafood includes Chilean sea bass and dill seared salmon. Several steak options are available and include pepper crusted new york steaks, rib-eye and tenderloins. Desserts, an extensive wine list and after dinner drinks round out the menu.

Jimmy Ryan's American Bistro

Jimmy Ryan's American Bistro specializes in aged steaks, pasta and fresh seafood. An extensive lunch menu includes appetizers such as beer battered onion rings and coconut fried shrimp. Daily soups and french onion soup follow the appetizer menu. Traditional salads and a taco salad are available for lighter lunch options. Burgers and sandwiches round out the lunch menu. Dinners offer many of the same appetizer, soup and salad options that are offered on the lunch menu. Entrees range from prime rib to veal; grilled yellow fin tuna to filet of pork and chicken Marsala. Sample the dessert menu with creations such as caramel fudge pecan pie and black forest torte. A wine and champagne list round out the meal. A children's menu is available.

The Lock Stock & Barrel

The Lock Stock & Barrel is located near the Millikin University and caters to the college crowd. The menu is simple and goes with many of the nightly events that are offered at the Lock Stock & Barrel. Appetizers range from nacho platters to a fruit and cheese basket. An all-you-can-eat salad bar is available. Hot sandwiches like reubens and turkey melts are options as well as many cold sandwiches. Beer battered cod, quiche of the day, crab cakes and chicken finger baskets provide entrees as well as a small-south-of-the-border menu. Daily meal and drink specials also are offered.
