Waukeenah, Florida is located on the panhandle of the state, about 20 miles east of the capital, Tallahassee. This town is close to a variety of outdoor recreation areas, including Apalachicola National Forest, Lake Talquin State Forest, and Hixtown Swamp Conservation Area. There are also several RV parks from which campers can choose, both in and around Waukeenah.

Tallahassee RV Park

The Tallahassee RV Park is located on the outskirts of the capital city and about 25 minutes west of Waukeenah. This RV park offers campers the following services: full hook-ups at all sites, 30 and 50 amp electrical service, some pull-through sites, phone hook-ups, and cable TV. In addition, the park has laundry facilities and tent sites for more primitive campers. Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park is 15 minutes west of the RV park and offers hikers five miles of wooded trails and nature paths--all of which are suitable for moderate-level hikers.

Monticello KOA

Monticello KOA (Kampground of America, a national chain of campgrounds) is located in East Tallahassee, a town about 10 minutes north of Waukeenah. This KOA offers several facilities and amenities including full hook-ups for RVs, free wireless Internet, up to 50-amp service, 100-foot long RV sites (large enough for most big rigs), a pavilion for picnicking, and a pool. A 20-minute drive will take hikers to the Letchworth Mounds for trails circumnavigating the 46-foot mounds thought to be build by Native Americans local to Florida more than 1,000 years ago.

Big Oak RV Park

Big Oak RV Park, situated right in Tallahassee, is about 30 minutes from downtown Waukeenah. This RV park offers campers the following services: wireless Internet, free cable TV, laundry services, restrooms, full hook-ups for RVs, and some pull-through sites. Nearby is the San Luis Archeological and Historic Site where visitors and hikers will find several miles of trail crisscrossing the ancient sites.
