Restaurants in Appalachian, New York

Thirteen States make up the Appalachian region, including New York State. The area includes parts of 14 New York counties, including Allegany, Broome, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Schoharie, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Tompkins. Collectively, these counties are referred to as New York State's "Southern Tier" and are popular with outdoor enthusiasts. Many of the towns were built by Italian immigrants, ensuring there is no shortage of fine Italian restaurants.

Donoli's Restaurant

Donoli's has been serving fine Italian cuisine in its family-friendly casual dining room for over 20 years. The extensive menu offers traditional pasta dishes, grilled meats and pizza.

Taking center stage among the restaurant's specialties are dishes made using the family's home made pesto, haddock prosciutto and pizza frites. A kid's menu is available and many options are suitable for vegetarians.

Nicoletta's Italian Café

Located just down the street from the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., Nicoletta's attracts an interesting mix of locals, tourists and sports celebrities. The elegant dining room sports hardwood flooring, a tin ceiling and crisp white linens, providing a sophisticated yet casual setting for a meal.

The limited menu focuses on Southern Italian dishes such as scampi, homemade sausage and lobster ravioli. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Fabio's Italian Restaurant

Fabio Santalucia has been serving dishes based on his grandmother's recipes for almost two decades. The casual restaurant packs them in because of its extensive menu of authentic Italian dishes.

Regional specialties such as chicken Siciliana and pan-seared pork medallions are popular, as are homemade pasta dishes. A special "healthy heart" menu is also available, loaded with healthy dining choices.
