Mount Vernon is located about 15 miles west of Springfield and just east of the border between Missouri and Minnesota. This small town is home to a variety of attractions, including the Spirit of '76 Park. In addition, Mount Vernon has five other city parks, all of which are free and open to the public. The Springfield KOA (Kampground of America, a national chain of campgrounds) is located 30 minutes east of downtown Mount Vernon. This KOA provides RV campers with the following amenities: 50-amp service, RVs for rent, pull-through sites, free wireless Internet and a large pavilion for picnicking and lunching. To escape the boundaries of this KOA, take a 10-minute drive due south to Wilson's Creek National Battlefield--a historic site featuring weapons demonstrations as well as hiking trails crisscrossing the battlefield.

Big Red Barn RV Park

Big Red Barn RV Park is located 40 minutes due west of Mount Vernon. This RV park offers 62 RV sites with full hookups, many pull-through sites, 30- and 50-amp service, cable TV, daily, weekly, and monthly rates and a computer room free for visitors. This RV park is located 40 minutes from the Talbot Conservation Area. Visitors to this site will find more than 4,300 protected acres of greenery, several walking and biking trails and a more strenuous loop trail.

Acorn Acres, located in historic Branson, missouri, is about an hour and a half south from Mount Vernon.
