It almost seems Georgia was created for nature lovers; from lakes to mountains and a little of everything between, fun is endless and the views, breathtaking. From fishing, skiing and aquatic sports, to teeing off at championship golf courses, hiking or touring plantations and vineyards, visitors have endless choices. And after basking in the Georgia sun, a cabin rental might be just the thing.

Fort Yargo State Park

Fort Yargo State Park, about 10 miles from Lawrenceville, has over 1,800 acres of nature and recreation, two tennis courts, 18 miles of hiking and mountain bike trails, and a heavily wooded 18-hole golf course, which offers unique challenges. Three rustic cabins are available to rent. One cabin is pet friendly for an extra charge (two pets maximum.) Next to the cabins is the Marbury Creek Reservoir, where visitors can swim, boat and fish. Even more rustic are five lakeside "yurts"--permanent tents with furniture inside and a fire ring outside.

Hard Labor State Park

About 45 minutes southeast of Lawrenceville, Hard Labor State Park is thought to be named for slaves laboring in the fields or Native Americans trying to ford the river. While best known for its golf course, the Creek, over 5,800 acres of park also encompass two lakes for swimming, fishing and boating. Twenty-four miles of trails will delight hikers and horseback riders (bring your own and rent a stall.) Group camps and 20 cabins allow visitors to spend the night in the heart of nature. The cabins feature cable TV and two are pet friendly for an extra charge (two pets maximum.)

Cavender Creek Cabins

Cavender Creek Cabins offers eight luxurious cabins near Dahlonega, about an hour north of Lawrenceville, Georgia. Set in the breathtaking beauty of the mountains, an old gold rush mining road from the 1829s leads to the cabins. Fully equipped, the cabins have central heat and air, fireplaces with gas logs and a fully-equipped kitchen. Some of the one-bedroom cabins come with a Jacuzzi, as do both of the two-bedroom cabins. Sofas pull out into sleepers, and the two-bedroom has an additional loft for extra sleep space. Outside, explore nature trails, fish in the well-stocked pond, or explore the gold-bearing Cavendar Creek the cabins are named for. Gold panning and instructions are available. Smoking is not allowed inside the cabins.

Lake Lanier Lodges

On Lake Lanier, an hour north of Lawrenceville and just east of Dahlonega, Lake Lanier Lodges has two- and four-bedroom cabins for rent. A children's playground, landscaped courtyard, private boat dock and boat rentals along with various nearby outdoor activities and sites will delight visitors. Full kitchens and bathrooms, fully furnished and stocked, await day's end. Cable TV, gas log fireplaces, central heat and air inside, with barbecue's and Jacuzzis, and picnic areas outside, are included.
