The San Francisco Bay Area comprises 101 different cities and covers 7,000 square miles. The annual mild temperatures makes San Francisco a haven for outdoor activities such as swimming at North Beach, walking along Pier 39 or hiking the half-mile trail at scenic Twin Peaks. San Francisco is also a multicultural haven and as a result, there is one Venezuelan restaurant in the City and several in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Coupa Café

Approximately 30 miles south of San Francisco along the Bay is the city of Palo Alto which is home to the Coupa Café. Owned and operated by the Coupal family, this East Bay establishment promotes the use of organic and fair-trade food products. With other locations in Beverly Hills and on the campus of Stanford University, Coupa Cafe in Palo Alto has a dining room that reflects Venezuelan colors in an atmosphere filled with hues of yellow and red. The coffee bar serves pastries and Venezuelan coffee that has been roasted in-house. In addition to offering catering services for any size event, Coupa Café serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The dinner menu has traditional Venezuelan dishes such as arepas (which are white cornmeal griddle cakes) and entrees that include pabellon (which is a homemade shredded beef stew with black beans, rice, sweet fried plantains, and arepas).

Pica Pica Maize Kitchen

The Pica Pica Maize Kitchen is in Napa, the hub of the famous northern California wine country north of San Francisco. The main ingredient used at Pica Pica Maize's Kitchen is corn, and the three types of corn bread served are arepa, cachapa which is 100-percent sweet-corn pancake), and the sweet corn bread that is the maize'wich. This environment-friendly establishment serves its wheat- and gluten-free food in biodegradable containers. Catering is available in San Francisco, Napa, Sonoma and Marin. The menu has several types of empanadas as well as soups and salads. The main dishes consist of your choice of arepas, maie'wich or cachapas, stuffed with fillings such as pelu'a (which is shredded skirt steak with cheddar cheese) or perico (which is Venezuelan-style scambled eggs, onions, and diced tomatoes with cheese or chorizo).

Restaurant Salto Angel

The Restaurant Salto Angel is located at the intersection of Filmore and Golden Gate Avenues in San Francisco, and serves Venezuelan, Mexican, and Nicaraguan fare for lunch and dinner. This family-style restaurant has a casual atmosphere, with a dining room that brings Venezuelan vibrancy to life through colorful wall treatments and decorations from Latin America. The inexpensive menu has Venezuelan favorites like empanadas, arepitas, and tostones. Entrees include arepas rellenas with your choice of fillings, pabellon criollo (which is shredded beef served with fried plantains and cheese) and parrillada llanera con hallaquitas y mojo de ajo (which is grilled beef served with corn in the husk).
