Cameron County, Texas, is the heart of what is referred to as the "Texas Riviera." With the shores and white, sugar-sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, Cameron County offers many forms of outdoor recreation to the visitor in the region. Sea-kayaking, fishing, scuba-diving and snorkeling, bird-watching and wildlife observation are all possible in Cameron County. There are a number of campgrounds and RV parks for the visitor to the region to base camp from for an exploration of Cameron County.

South Padre KOA

Guests staying at the South Padre KOA can enjoy strolling the beaches of Padre Island while keeping an eye out for sea turtles, dolphin and a myriad of sea and migratory birds. Snorkelers can swim in the azure waters, sometimes with wild dolphin swimming by them. Sea-kayakers can paddle the shores and anglers can try their luck going for bonefish and snook. The KOA has tent campsites with fire-rings, picnic tables and freshwater access. RV campers will have hookups that include 30- or 50-amp electric, water and sewer. Pets are allowed, and AAA and Good Sam discounts are available. All guests may use the showers and bathrooms, as well as the guest house that has kitchen facilities.

Breeze Lake Campground

Breeze Lake Campground is in Brownsville, Texas, and offers a range of services to both tent campers and RV travelers. Tent sites have fire-rings and picnic facilities. Tenters have access to freshwater for cooking and drinking. RV sites have 30- or 50-amp electric, water and sewer. All guests have use of the bathrooms, showers, laundry room, on-grounds fishing and guest room. Pets are welcome. The Santa Ana National Wildlife refuge is a 45-minutes drive from Breeze Lake, and visitors to the refuge can observe sea birds, coyotes, armadillos and birds of prey.

Paul's RV Park and Campground

Paul's RV Park and Campground can accommodate both tent campers and RVs. Tent sites have the standard freshwater access and fie-rings with grills and picnic tables. RV sites have water, sewer, cable TV and 30- or 50-amp electric hookups. Pets are allowed if leashed. All guests have access to the showers and bathrooms. The Sabal Palm Audubon Center is within 20 minutes and has an interpretive center on the birds and flora and fauna of the region. Sea-kayakers can be on the coast in 30 minutes where they can ply the waters seeking dolphin and sea birds.
