Nestled between Lake Hodges, San Pasqual Battlefield State Park and the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve, Escondido, Calif., is in northern San Diego County. The area is a popular destination for hiking and biking. Escondido's downtown area has antique shops, art galleries and street fairs. Escondido is within an hour's drive of the San Diego Zoo and the beaches.

Champagne Lakes RV Resort

Situated on 50 acres of oak forests and native chaparrals, Champagne Lakes RV Resort is in the center of three lakes, with swimming, boating and fishing. Hikers and bikers have wild trails nearby. The park features 69 full hookup sites, 21 partial hookups and 10 tent sites. Amenities include cable TV, a swimming pool, convenience store and laundry facility. The resort has a dump site.

All Seasons RV Park

The All Seasons RV Park has its own private lake stocked with native fish. Fishing licenses are not required for the park's guests. The park's 10 tent sites are scattered along the water's edge. Full hookups are available, as are non-hookup sites. Hookup sites feature free cable television and selected sites have a direct view of the lake. Amenities include a pool, laundry facility, barbecues and playground. A small grocery store is also on-site.

Lake Wohlford Resort

Located off Lake Wohlford, the resort has access to a fishing spot that has been popular with locals for about 100 years. The resort is about 15 minutes from Escondido. It has a swimming pool, a restaurant and access to hiking and biking trails. Anglers on Lake Wohlford can catch channel catfish, rainbow trout, black crappie, largemouth bass and bluegill.
