Cape Hatteras KOA
The Cape Hatteras KOA offers RV accommodations, tent sites, lodges and one- and two-bedroom rental cabins. The campground is less than 10 miles north of Nags Head. The KOA has two lanes of tent sites equipped only with water taps near the middle of the property. They are separated by the volleyball and horseshoe courts. Selected sites have picnic tables. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, playground, basketball court, swimming pool and spa, propane sales, multiple shower houses and a coin laundry. The campground has direct access to the beach, and rents bicycles and kayaks to guests.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore
The Cape Hatteras National Seashore operates four separate camping facilities, but only the Oregon Inlet campground is convenient to Nags Head. This is a 120-site campground typically open between April and October. Oregon Inlet is open to RVs as well as tent campers, but as it offers no hookups, it is often favored by the latter. All campgrounds have cold-water showers, picnic tables and barbecue grills. There are no shade trees at Oregon Inlet, and the sandy ground requires longer stakes to effectively secure your tent. The campground is near the beach, separated by barrier dunes. Mosquitoes and other biting insects can pose a problem during the summer months, so remember to bring insect repellent.

Adventure Bound Campground
Adventure Bound Campground is a private, tents-only campground, which is an open, grassy pitch framed by woods. It is serviced by a picnic area with barbecue grills, a central campfire area and a shower house. It has courts for shuffleboard, horseshoes, volleyball and croquet, along with crabbing gear, beach furniture and boogie boards. Adventure Bound Campground is located further inland in the middle of Kitty Hawk, about a mile from the beach.
