Smith Mountain Lake State Park
The Smith Mountain Lake State Park is a great choice for nature lovers, as alongside water sports like swimming, fishing and boating, you'll also find miles of hiking trails, nature interpretive programs and beautiful views of the nearby mountains. The park has 50 camping sites on their wooded acres, and all of them include a fire pit, picnic table and lantern post. Firewood is also available for a small fee. There is a full-service bathhouse with hot water showers and a sink for washing dishes. If you're bringing along your boat, there is parking for trailers near the campground entrance. Smith Mountain Lake State Park is open March 1 through the first Monday in December.

Blue Ridge Campground and Marina
Open from April 1 to October 31, the Blue Ridge Campground and Marina offers a variety of sites that include full hookups with water, sewer, and electricity. Since you're right on the water, you can bring your own boat to the marina or just enjoy the cool mountain water along the shore. There is ample fishing nearby as well. You'll find horseshoe pits, a volleyball court, a playground for the kids and a pavilion perfect for family get-togethers. There is a Laundromat on site, as well as bathhouses with hot water for those camping at primitive sites.

Eagle's Roost Campground
Open April 1 through October 31, Eagle's Roost Campground is a family-friendly park on the east side of Smith Mountain Lake, and it has been around for more than 40 years. Both full hookup RV and more primitive tent sites are available, and most of them are pleasantly shaded. At the campground you can relax and swim on their dandy beach, launch your boat from their ramp, or rent a canoe and paddle around the lake. There are group activities planned on most holiday weekends, and you'll find the place fully booked on July 4th, Memorial Day, and Labor Day weekends. Call early to make your family's reservation.
