Japanese Steak Houses in the Seattle Area

Japanese Steak Houses in the Seattle Area
There's a reason Seattle has a reputation as a haven for granola-munching outdoorsy types. With multiple stomping grounds around town, from old-growth forests at the foot of Mt. Teneriffe to wetlands trails along the shores of Puget Sound, the Emerald City is bursting with opportunities to get back to nature. For a dose of tranquility, try the Japanese Garden located in the Washington Park Arboretum. Constructed in 1960 under the guidance of designer Juki Iida, the garden offers three and a half acres of serenity, with maples, pines, mosses, ferns and rhododendrons centered around a pond full of turtles and koi fish. If you feel like continuing on a Japanese theme, consider one of Seattle's several Japanese steakhouses.

Mizu Japanese Steakhouse‎

At the Mizu Japanese Steakhouse, sit around the teppanyaki table, watch the flames reach upwards, and realize there's plenty of sizzle that goes into your steak. Meals at Mizu begin with Japanese onion soup and a salad with ginger dressing. Then dive into starters like shrimp and asparagus in garlic butter and sake sauce. Then the main event gets underway as the chef creates a hibachi happening, cooking your entree of choice--chicken, seafood or yes, steak--with the skill and dexterity of a master swordsman. Meat-lovers' delights include the "chef's choice" of New York steak and shrimp, the "manager's choice" of filet mignon and shrimp, and "Austin's choice" of hibachi chicken and steak. If steak isn't your thing, Mizu offers nigiri and sashimi sushi as well as sushi rolls with colorful names like candy cane roll, Seahawks roll and ninja roll. Vegetarians can opt for the many kinds of grillable tofu and veggies.

Susumu Japanese Steakhouse

Like most Japanese steakhouses, Susumu fires up your food right at the table, which skirts the grill. The restaurant claims to create quite the dining experience, featuring "volcanoes, Japanese disco, egg spin, shaker shows, twirling knives and more." The restaurant has two dining rooms, one dedicated to sushi and the other providing the classic teppanyaki entertainment where you gather around the iron griddle as the chef prepares hibachi New York steak or filet mignon as well as shrimp, chicken, scallops and lobster tail. After digging into these meaty delights, wash it down with beer, wine, sake or one of the many cocktails, including margaritas, white Russians, mai tais and something called a duck fart.
