At the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the American River, Auburn and the surrounding towns are a recreation playground. From hiking to fishing, mountain biking and whitewater rafting, beginners to experts can find trails, routes and climbs that will suit them. Local area campgrounds offer amenities and easy access to all the outdoor hot spots.

Auburn Gold Country RV Park

Auburn Gold RV Park offers non hookup tent sites and 30- and 50-amp deluxe pull-through RV sites accommodating lengths up to 60 feet. A few minutes drive from the RV Park is Auburn State Recreation Area offers white water rafting, hiking and mountain biking opportunities. If you prefer to stay near the RV Park for the day, you can swim in the heated pool or head to fish at the fishing hole onsite.

The park offers shade and privacy at each site and free Wi-Fi service. Onsite guests can enjoy laundry service, showers, a television lounge and a convenience store for last minute snacks or anything you may have forgot to pack. Day and weekly rates are available.

Camp Lotus

Eighteen miles northeast and open year-round, Camp Lotus has natural grass campsites and shady level sites for RV campers. Jump on the Greenwood Trail for running and mountain biking, a short drive away. Raft or kayak the surrounding rivers with routes for both novices and the more experienced. If you want to stay close to home, a one mile nature trail is just outside the grounds offers birdwatching, walking or jogging opportunities.

Children under eight stay for free at Camp Lotus. Enjoy horseshoes and volleyball, and free use of the hot showers. You can grill out, do your laundry, watch cable television or catch up with e-mail with the free Wi-Fi. If you have an RV full hook-ups, 30- or 50-amp electricity and drive through spaces are available at the RV park.

Coloma Resort

Nineteen miles north east of Auburn is the Coloma Resort with almost one mile of river front camping along the American River for tents or RV. Head to the general store and grab a map for mountain bike and hiking routes, rent a tub to paddle down the river or get a license to fish for the day.

A full range of amenities are at the resort including Wi-Fi, cable television, showers and laundry. A pool, ropes course, playground and bbq pits are open for usage. A dump station and full hook-ups are available for RV and camper guests. You can also book massage and spa services at the resort.
