For outdoor enthusiasts, many regions of the country provide opportunities for hiking and caving such as the Chartreuse Mountains (Massif de la Chartreuse), a region in the eastern portion of the country. Most visitors to the region fly into Grenoble from Paris, which provides an opportunity to see the sights in the City of Light. One way to see the Parisian sights is by taking a cruise along the Seine River.

Paris Vision

Paris Vision provides both lunch and dinner cruises along the Seine River. The tours begin at La Marina de Paris, which is adjacent to the Musee d'Orsay, an art museum displaying sculptures, painting and photography from 1820 and later. The cruises pass sites like the Eiffel Tower, the Pont-Neuf and Notre Dame. Each cruise has its own menu, such as the Discovery that features a mix of culinary traditions from Italian to Russian to American fare. A traditional French menu, the Plaisir, is also available. Cruises lasing one hour, 15 minutes and two hours are available. Reservations are required in advance for every cruise.

Bateaux Parisiens

Established in 1956, the director of the Eiffel Tower restaurants opened Bateaux Parisiens. More than 50 years later, the company's fleet has grown to include 19 boats. Its cruises board near the Eiffel Tower, then travel from the Statue of Liberty to the Bibliotheque nationale de France and back. Bateaux Parisiens lunch cruises last one hour, 45 minutes, while dinner cruises have a two-hour, 30-minute duration. The company also offers sightseeing cruises during the spring, summer and winter that give a guided narration of the sites as well as specialized cruises for school trips with the narration geared toward children. Advance reservations are required for all of the cruises.

Bateaux Les Vedettes du Pont-Neuf

Established in 1980, Bateaux Les Vedettes du Pont-Neuf operates four tour boats on the Seine River and one smaller boat for private, chartered cruises. The cruises depart from the Pont-Neuf bridge, located near Notre Dame. All of its cruises last one hour. Strictly for sightseeing , the Bateaux Les Vedettes du Pont-Neuf's cruises depart several times during the day, allowing guests to choose a daylight or evening voyage. Advance reservations are not required, but are recommended.
