As the capital of Michigan, Lansing is one of the state's busiest cities. With such a vast amount of people, many different restaurants are present in and around the city. From fast food to gourmet, barbecue to sushi, Lansing has a restaurant for every taste. There are even some hard-to-find German restaurants in Lansing and the surrounding areas.

Mediteran

Mediteran is a European restaurant that offers flavors from Germany, Italy and Greece. The portions are enormous and the prices will fit anyone's budget. Mediteran's atmosphere is very casual and relaxed, which makes it a terrific place for families and groups of friends. Prepare yourself for a long wait if you are going to lunch on the weekends or a holiday. Fortunately, Mediteran is open later than other restaurants in the area, so you have plenty of time to have a relaxing meal. One of the best items on the menu is the potato pancake platter. Be sure to save room for dessert, as Mediteran has one of the biggest dessert selections in all of Lansing.

Backstreet Steakhouse

If you drive about half an hour outside of Lansing, you will find the Backstreet Steakhouse in Stockbridge, Michigan. Backstreet Steakhouse is a very casual restaurant with a pub atmosphere. While Backstreet advertises as a steak and seafood restaurant, its German roots are apparent in virtually all of its dishes. Thursday nights are all you can eat liver and onions night, which is a big hit with local patrons. There are specials every night, including fish fry nights, free drinks and more. The restaurant has a decent presence on Facebook, where they offer discounts to fans on the page.

La Royale Dutchess

Less than an hour outside of Lansing is the spectacular La Royale Dutchess. Aside from being a terrific Bavarian restaurant, La Royale Dutchess offers an amazing bakery and catering services. La Royale Dutchess is often booked for weddings and other parties, so be sure to call ahead and make a reservation. The restaurant is a more formal atmosphere, but welcomes an elegant casual dress code. Be sure to bring home some apple strudel from the bakery.

Mama Bear's Cafe

Mama Bear's Cafe is a small restaurant that serves lighter fare, such as pastries, coffee and sandwiches. Mama's works with locally-grown food to offer organic dishes to patrons. Specialties include ham and cheese brotchen, potato salad, German sugar cookies and bratwurst with sauerkraut. Since 2007, Mama's has been a featured restaurant during Oldtown Oktoberfest.
