Campgrounds in Keystone, South Dakota
Keystone, South Dakota, is the home of the famous Mount Rushmore. Beyond the rock monument, the region has many opportunities for outdoor sports and activities. Hikers can find trails at the national park, as well as bird-watching, rock climbing, bouldering and backpacking. Cave enthusiasts can visit the Wind Cave National Park and Jewel Cave National Monument for underground explorations.

Kemp's Kamp

Kemp's Kamp has sites for both tent campers and RVs. Tent sites have picnic tables and fire rings. Fresh water spigots for drinking and cooking are available. RV sites have 30- and 50-amp electric, water, sewer, cable TV and Wi-Fi connections. RVs of most sizes can be handled at Kemp's. Pets are allowed on the grounds if leashed. All guests can use the campground amenities such as swimming pool, bathrooms and showers. There are mountain biking and hiking trails near the campground, and anglers can drop a line on the waters that are on the campground.

Wind Cave National Park--Elk Mountain Campground

Spelunkers and cavers will enjoy the Wind Cave National Park system of caves. There are 132 miles of caves to explore in the park. The Elk Mountain Campground is within the national park and has sites for tents and RVs. Tent sites have picnic tables and fire pits. RV sites are primitive. RVs should be self-contained, as there are no dump stations at the campgrounds. There are pit toilets at the campgrounds for all guests use. Water is available during spring and summer only. Pets are allowed, but must be leashed at all times in the park. Wildlife watchers can look for pronghorn, bison, black bear, mountain lion and bobcat, to name a few of the species in the region.

Mt. Rushmore/Hill City KOA

The Mt. Rushmore KOA has sites for tent campers and RVs of all sizes. Tent sites are level and have fire pits with grills and picnic tables. There are fresh-water spigots for drinking and cooking water. RV sites have 20-, 30-, or 50-amp electric, sewer, water, cable TV and Wi-Fi connections. All guests may use the showers, bathrooms, laundry room, picnic areas, playground, swimming pool and guesthouse with kitchen. Pets are allowed if leashed. In the nearby Wind Cave National Park, the Rankin Ridge offers hiking opportunities.
