Fredericton, the capital of the Canadian province of New Brunswick, is a bustling city that is located on the banks of the St. John River. Visit the Beaverton Art Gallery, considered one of Canada's finest. The downtown historic Garrison District is a National Heritage site and home to summer festivals, outdoor films and concerts. Kayak or canoe on the St. John River or meander riverfront trails. In nearby Odell Park, walk nature trails through old-growth forests. Ice skating, fishing and skiing at Crabbe Mountain also are popular outdoor pursuits.

Mactaquac Provincial Park

One of New Brunswick's finest parks, this 1,300-acre preserve along the St. John River welcomes RVs and tent campers. The park, less than 5 miles from Fredericton, has 300 sites, including full hookups and pull-through sites. A camp store, modern bathhouses with showers, picnic areas, dump station and kitchen pavilions are near the camping sties. In the park, there are two beaches (lifeguards are on duty), an 18-hole championship golf course, boat rentals and a network of hiking trails. The park offers a variety of guided programs and special events throughout the year.

Hart Island RV Resort

Minutes from the center of Fredericton, this full-service resort can accommodate any size RV in large pull-through sites. Sites have water and electric or full hookups and free Wi-FI. You can walk riverfront trails into town from the campground. But there's plenty to keep you here. The park, located on the St. John River, has walking and biking trails, guided kayaking and canoeing trips on the river (rentals are also available for self-guided excursions), tube rides and evening boat trips. At the bustling activity center, you'll find a miniature golf course, a driving range, playground, snack shop and ice cream bar.

Heritage Country Camping

Grassy fields overlook the St. John River at this RV campground, just minutes from downtown Fredericton. The RV park has 108 sites, offering a variety of services, including water and 30-amp electrical sites and full hookup sites with 50-amp service. The family owned and operated property has an outdoor swimming pool, recreational hall, camp store, guest laundry, modern bathhouse (with free hot showers) and picnic areas. Hiking trails meander through the fields and woods. The resort also hosts a variety of planned activities during summer weekends.
