Omoa is a quiet, seaside village set amid the natural beauty of the northwestern Honduras coastline. Established as a Spanish colonial town in 1752, it is perhaps best known for the Fortaleza de San Fernando de Omoa, an 18th-century fortress that overlooks the ocean and is open to the general public. Visitors to the area can take advantage of recreational activities such as hiking, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving or sunbathing. There are numerous lodging accommodations in Omoa to suit visitors of every stripe.

Sueños de Mar Beachfront Bed & Breakfast

This Canadian-owned hotel is nestled along a beach nook with views of the bay. Guest are offered amenities such as Internet access, free parking, fresh morning coffee or espresso, a center courtyard with a hammock, wide-open veranda with lounge chairs, and an array of handcrafted gifts and artwork for sale by Honduran artists. The bilingual staff can arrange shuttle service to and from the Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport as well as guide visitors to local attractions ranging from horseback riding to tours of Mayan ruins. Additionally, an on-site restaurant and bar serves cocktails and fresh local fare for breakfast and lunch. All guest rooms feature ceiling fans, cable television and private bathrooms. Some rooms also have refrigerators and tables and chairs.

Substitute "00" for "011" when calling outside the United States and Canada.

Hotel y Restaurante Flamingo

Just off the town's main road is this modern, family-owned hotel featuring private beach access and a multilingual staff. Guests can help themselves to cocktails at the bar and watch the sun set on the large veranda, or enjoy Honduran cuisine in the hotel dining room, which overlooks the water. Breakfast is included with overnight accommodations. Additionally, the property is available for private parties and group events. All 10 guest rooms are painted in tropical pastel colors, and they and include satellite television, air-conditioning and private bathrooms with hot running water. Two of the rooms feature ocean views. This hotel accepts all major credit cards, unlike many accommodations in town, and it has an office safe for stowing valuables.

Roli's Place

This modest, Swiss-run hotel is closer to the center of town, yet still within walking distance of the beach and surrounded by lush, shady vegetation. Property amenities include Internet access (for an additional fee), laundry service, chess boards, table tennis, and free kayak or bike rental. The staff will provide tourist information, including free maps, and will charter transportation to anywhere in the area for groups of six or more. A common kitchen allows guests to cook their own meals, while numerous local eateries are just a short walk away. The hotel also provides the budget-conscious traveler with an array of accommodations to choose from, including a grassy outdoor plot for camping, a mosquito-screened dormitory and private guest rooms with plush bedding.
