City of Albany: Public Bath #2

Act like a local by heading to one of Albany's public swimming areas, such as Public Bath #2. Run by the city, it is open to anyone six days a week (closed Sundays). Get in an early morning swim before heading out to see the city or swim in the evenings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Note that Monday through Friday from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m., swim lessons are held for children and teenagers, so plan your visit accordingly.

Steuben Athletic Club

If your hike is rained out or you're not interested in an overnight hotel stay in exchange for a dip in an indoor pool, visit the Steuben Athletic Club. Although many gyms require a general yearly or month-to-month membership, hikers who plan ahead can secure a free trial pass from Steuben's web site. The Steuben Athletic Club offers a one-week free trial via a print-out from its main page. Hikers can print the pass before their visit, then use the indoor pool (and any other desired gym facilities) for free. Gyms hours vary (especially on holidays), so contact the facility in advance.
