Myakka River State Park
This state park encloses wetlands, pine forests and a stretch of Myakka River and offers a pair of campgrounds--Big Flats and Old Prairie--with 76 campsites. These are joint tent-RV sites, but they do have hard dirt pads, so campers should to remember to bring bedrolls or mats. All campsites come equipped with water, a picnic table and fire ring. Both campgrounds are serviced by centrally located shower houses, and Big Flats is adjacent to a dock from where the park's airboat tours are launched. There are also 18 primitive, walk-in campsites divided among six separate areas amid the park's oak hammock. Among its outdoor opportunities, the park offers bird and wildlife watching, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. The park's various campgrounds accept pets, but they must be kept on a leash and attended at all times. The state park is roughly 25 miles from Englewood.

Venice/Myakka River KOA
Like most KOAs, the Venice/Myakka River branch of this national chain of "kampgrounds" offers a mix of RV and tent sites. The outer lane of camping sites abut a nature preserve and are designated "river marsh" sites. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the campground. The KOA's amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, river fishing in the Myakka, courts for shuffleboard and horseshoes, a picnic pavilion and LP gas sales. The Venice/Myakka River KOA is just a little over 5 miles from Englewood and sits between the Myakka State Forest (distinct from the state park) and the Deer Prairie Creek Preserve.

Riverside RV Resort
There's a separate tent camping area in the back of the 70-acre property. It is lightly wooded and has a string of ponds on one side and the Peace River on another. The camping facilities consist of shower houses and a camp store, but the latter is inconveniently located vis-a-vis the tent campground. Its amenities include two outdoor swimming pools, spa, courts for horseshoes and shuffleboard, game room and dog park. There is also a boat ramp and fishing dock, so anglers can go fishing straight from the RV resort, although a Florida fishing license is required. The resort is about a 25-mile drive from Englewood and is less than a mile from the RV Griffin Reserve.
