Yacht Clubs in New York, N.Y.
When people think of New York City they think of Central Park, Broadway shows, the Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, etc. However, New York's waterfront location also provides its visitors with opportunities for deep sea fishing and boating excursions. New York has yacht clubs throughout the city that facilitate aquatic activities, such as racing competitions, yacht group expeditions and casual cruises on the Hudson River, Upper Bay and Lower Bay.

New York Yacht Club

The New York Yacht Club was founded in 1844 to serve as an organization that could host weekend racing in and around New York Harbor. This tradition continues to this day, with its racing events held throughout the year. These races include the New York Yacht Club's Annual Regatta in the summer and the New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, which occurs in the autumn. The club also hosts team racing events that include competing for the Morgan Cup and Hinman Masters Trophy, as well as cruising expeditions where members of the New York Yacht club sail all over the world. The yacht club has two locations: 44th Street in Manhattan and Newport Island, Rhode Island.

Manhattan Sailing Club

Founded in 1987, Manhattan Sailing Club not only offers facilities for yachts, but for sailboats as well. The club does not have the historical prestige like its counterpart, the New York Yacht Club, but the Manhattan Sailing Club hosts its fair share of racing events, including the Annual Women's Race, J/24 Short Hand Championship and the Round Governors Island Race. The club also features the Manhattan Sailing School, that Time Out New York Guidebook describes as "the largest and most respected such organization operating in New York Harbor." The Manhattan Sailing Club has locations at North Cove Yacht Harbor in Battery Park City and Liberty Harbor Marina in Jersey City.
