Four sacred mountains act as homeland boundaries of the Navajo Nation. Kayenta, Arizona offers views of one of these majestic defenses---Doko'oosliid or Abalone Shell Mountain. This beautiful and revered region provides many attractions for the desert wanderer, including the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. The valley's unique stone structures were featured in Stagecoach, Forest Gump and Back to the Future III. Also featured are many museums and historic sites relating to Navajo tribes. A trip to the Navajo Nation is a great way be immersed in natural beauty and Native American culture. A great hotel, which there are plenty of to go around, can act as your own personal oasis.

Located near some of Kayenta's more scenic areas and historic attractions, the Hampton Inn offers reasonably priced comforts with a traditional feel. Rooms are decorated with Navajo patterns and colors. The hotel was modeled with a design similar to the Native adobes. The gift shop even features local artwork and crafts for sale. Rooms start at $55, as of January 2010. Whether lounging by the lobby's Southwestern fireplace or taking a dip in the outdoor swimming pool (a nice luxury in the desert), this hotel may be the perfect vacation hideaway.

Best Western Wetherill Inn

This well-situated Inn is only a short drive from the Monument Valley Tribal Park, the Navajo National Monument cliff dwellings, Lake Powell and the Grand Canyon. It's only 1 mile from the Navajo Code Talker Exhibit and the Navajo Cultural Center. Although the location is convenient, the prices are steeper at $150 or higher, as of January 2010. The hotel aims to please, offering arranged tours of some of the major area attractions.

Holiday Inn Kayenta

This comfortable inn invokes an authentic flavor with a full-service restaurant, featuring Native American cuisine and gift shops with Native American art and jewelry. The hotel hosts guest tours of the Canyons and provides box lunches to take on exhibitions. This hotel is slightly farther from the main attractions than the Best Western, requiring a day's drive to some of the main attractions. This establishment is priced similarly to its more convenient competitor at around $140 and up, as of January 2010.
