Surf City, North Carolina, is located on Topsail Island with more than 26 miles of white, sandy beaches. Located just 30 minutes from Jacksonville and Wilmington, the island is rumored to have gotten its name from pirates. Blackbeard himself is said to have roamed the beaches. Restaurants in the area specialize in seafood dishes, but there are some unique ones that are worth checking out.

Mollie's Casual Dining

Mollie's Casual Dining is a full-service restaurant overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. It serves a full breakfast specializing in crab cake eggs benedict and blue monkey pancakes, plus Mollie's bakes its biscuits fresh daily. Lunchtime will find diners munching on sandwich and salads or the daily specials that provide entree and two side dishes plus a drink. Mollie's also allows guests to bring their catch of the day into the restaurant, and the cooks will prepare it for them as long as it is already cleaned. The dinner menu includes seafood, steaks, chicken and several pasta dishes as well as a hot crab dip made from a family recipe. The restaurant also serves fried green tomatoes.

Andy's Burgers, Shakes and Fries

Andy's Burgers, Shakes and Fries has several locations in North Carolina and began in 1991 when the owner, Kenny Moore, was fired from another chain of restaurants. Guests to Surf City cannot visit without going to Andy's, even though it specializes in burgers, it has a unique sauce that sets it apart from the rest. The restaurant also has some specialties such as the fried shrimp burgers and cheesesteak sandwiches. The kid's menu is limited, but there is always a treat for the kids. This '50s-style diner also serves malts in the large glasses of yesteryear and has a chicken cordon bleu sandwich worth trying.

Justbaked Restaurant and Bakery

Justbaked Restaurant and Bakery is a fine-dining establishment that concentrates on baked goods. The menu items include spinach salad and a seafood salad, both with organic vegetables. The lunch menu includes sandwiches such as veggie and hummus or pepper crusted rib eye steak. The dinner menu has a choice of appetizers such as fire-roasted shrimp, cornmeal crusted oysters and crab cakes. The entrees are served to order and include 14 spice crusted rib eye and chipotle shrimp and grits just to give dinner a taste of the South. As diners are leaving they can stop by the bakery and pick up some scones, filled croissants or a freshly baked pie.
