Chicago Ski Clubs

Chicago Ski Clubs
Living in the Midwest can be challenging if you are an avid skier. There is a dearth of massive mountain ranges in the surrounding area, and finding fellow-skiers with whom you can travel far away to ski can be frustrating. Fortunately, in the large Chicago metropolitan area, there are several ski clubs from which to choose. Depending on your skill level, preference for skiing or snowboarding, and the frequency with which you travel, you can make an educated decision about joining one of the clubs.

National Brotherhood of Skiers

The National Brotherhood of Skiers is a unique organization. Incorporated in 1975, this group caters to the African-American population in Chicago and seeks to train, develop, and launch Olympic-caliber skiers into the professional circuit. The National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS) also helps to foster involvement and outreach within under-served communities in Chicago. Through member organizations, the NBS provides funding and opportunities for younger skiers to participate in both recreational and professional skiing. The NBS has 84 member groups, including one main hub in Chicago.

Lincoln Park Ski Club

Lincoln Park Ski Club (LPSC) is one of the most social of the ski clubs in Chicago. Its purpose is to bring together ski and snowboard enthusiasts to play together in the mountains. Membership is free and easily attainable, and trips are scheduled regularly throughout the ski season. Its current membership is over 200, and all skill levels are encouraged to join. Meetings for members are open to all and held twice a month. This club is for novices and experts alike, as long as you are interested in making like-minded friends in Chicago.

Sanctuary Ski Club

Sanctuary Ski Club is a nonprofit, all-volunteer-run organization for Chicago-area skiers, snowboarders, and general outdoor enthusiasts. While the club is generally reserved for ski trips during the winter months, the organization often arranges summer hiking, biking, and rafting trips, too. The Sanctuary Ski Club holds meetings on the first and third Wednesday of every month during the ski season, and meetings are open to both members and nonmembers. This is a 21+ club. Sanctuary Ski Club is a member of the Chicago Metropolitan Ski Council.
