Campgrounds on Norris Lake, Tennessee

Campgrounds on Norris Lake, Tennessee
Norris Lake is an extensive reservoir system formed by the damming of the Clinch River in eastern Tennessee. A trio of state parks were developed as part of the dam project, providing ample opportunities for camping and other outdoor activities. The western end of Norris Lake is just a few miles from Interstate 75, making its campgrounds and other attractions convenient destinations for anyone in the southeastern U.S.

Norris Dam State Park

This 4,038-acre state park offers a pair of campgrounds. The east campground has 25 sites, some tents-only and others joint tent-RV sites. The west campground has 50 sites, all joint tent-RV sites. Both campgrounds are serviced by a bathhouse and dump station, and every site has a picnic table and barbecue grill. There is a maximum stay limit of two weeks. Other accommodations are available in the form of rental cabins. The park has several miles of hiking trails, boating, fishing, an outdoor swimming pool, a playground and extensive sporting facilities for tennis, badminton, basketball, volleyball and horseshoes.

Big Ridge State Park

Located upriver from Norris Lake proper, Big Ridge State Park sits on a part of the reservoir system called Big Ridge Lake. The campground at Big Ridge offers 50 joint tent-RV sites, each with a picnic table and barbecue grill. The campground is serviced by three bathhouses with showers and a dumping station. In addition, there are three designated back-country camping areas in the park, and these have no facilities whatsoever. The park has 15 miles of hiking trails, fishing, a playground, a swimming beach and facilities for volleyball, tennis, horseshoes, basketball and softball. There is a maximum camping stay limit of two weeks. Other accommodations are available in the form of rental cabins.

Cove Lake State Park

The 210-acre Cove Lake is a northern tributary of the larger Norris Lake reservoir system. The 673-acre enclosure is the smallest of the lake area's three state parks, but nonetheless it still offers 100 joint tent-RV campsites. Most, but not all, of the sites have individual picnic tables and barbecue grills, and the campground is serviced by a pair of bathhouses and one dump station. As with the other parks, there is a maximum stay of two weeks. The park operates a lakeside barbecue restaurant, has 3.5 miles of hiking trails, fishing, playgrounds and facilities for badminton, shuffleboard, horseshoes, volleyball, ping-pong and tennis.
