Carrollton, Georgia, a mid-size city in the west-central section of the state, sits near the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Visitors to the area can find hiking trails, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, backpacking and bird-watching opportunities. RV and tent campers have several options for campgrounds in the region near Carrollton.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park can accommodate RV and tent campers. Tent sites are primitive, with picnic tables and fire rings. There is fresh water access for tent campers. RV sites have water and sewer hookups, and either either 30- or 50-amp electric hookups. The campground also provides Wi-Fi and cable TV hookups for guest use. Pets are allowed if leashed. There is a dog park for off leash play. Bathrooms, showers and a laundry room are on the premises for guest comfort. The McIntosh Reserve is within a 30-minute drive and has trails for hikers, trail runners and mountain bikers.

Sweetwater Valley Park

The Sweetwater Valley Park offers sites for both tent and RV campers. RVs of most sizes can be handled at the Sweetwater. Hookups for RVs include 30- or 50-amp electric, water and sewer. Pets are allowed. Tent sites have fire pits, picnic tables and access to fresh water for drinking and cooking. All guests can use the bathrooms, showers, guest house, laundry room, barbecue areas and recreation sites on the park premises. Nearby John Tanner State Park has a lake for canoeing, swimming, fishing and kayaking.

John Tanner State Park

Visitors to the Carrollton area can opt to stay at John Tanner State Park. Within the park, visitors can find hiking trails, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and bird watching. John Tanner State Park offers RV sites and sites for tents. RV site hookups include water, 50-amp electric and cable TV. Tent sites are primitive but have fire rings and picnic tables. Pets are allowed in the park but must remain leashed. There are showers and bathrooms for guest use. Due to insect infestation, outside firewood may not be allowed. Guests should check with rangers before camping to see what the current rules and regulations regarding fires are for the time.
