Three Forks, Montana, (population 1,800) derived its name from the headwaters of the Missouri River, where the three forks of the Missouri encompass the region. Here, the Gallatin, Madison and Jefferson rivers converge to form the Missouri River. Nearby attractions include Missouri Headwaters State Park with miles of blue-ribbon trout fishing, Madison Buffalo Jump State Park, and the Lewis and Clark Caverns.

Camp Three Forks

Camp Three Forks is a private campground located three miles west of downtown Three Forks off I-90. Camp Three Forks has 62 RV sites and 20 tent sites. The campground features a store, an outdoor swimming pool and a playground. The campground also offers a dump station, electric service, wireless Internet access, laundry facilities, public restrooms, RV hookups, sewer, showers and drinking water.

Enjoy opportunities to picnic, bird watch, fly-fish, float or canoe, and golf. Great blue herons, sandhill cranes, red-tailed hawks, golden and bald eagles, river otters, beaver, mink, elk, deer, antelope and moose inhabit the nearby area, and the rivers are filled with blue-ribbon trout.

The campground is in operation from mid-April through mid-October. Reservations are recommended. Pets are welcome.

Fort Three Forks Motel & RV Park

Fort Three Forks RV Park is located about 20 miles north of Three Forks. The RV Park features 12 pull-through sites and two paved sites with 30- and 50-amp electricity. Services provided include an RV dump station, full RV hookups, water, sewer, laundry facilities, public restrooms and showers. Horse boarding is available.

The RV Park adjoins the motel, which offers free Continental breakfast and local calls, business services, satellite TV and guest laundry. Additionally, the RV park is in walking distance to a bakery, restaurants, gift shops and service stations. The motel and RV park are open year-round. Reservations are strongly recommended, and a must during peak seasons. Pets are welcome.

Fort Three Forks RV Park is within an hour's drive to the Missouri Headwaters State Park and Lewis and Clark Caverns. The Madison Buffalo Jump is less than three hours away.

Missouri Headwaters State Park

The Missouri Headwaters Sate Park is a 10-minute drive from downtown Three Forks. The 532-acre park encompasses the area where the Jefferson, Madison and Gallatin rivers merge to form the Missouri River. The park has 17 campsites, tepee rentals, picnic areas, a boat launch and interpretive displays of the area's cultural and natural history.

The park offers handicapped accessible sites, vault toilets, a group use area, an RV dump station, grills/fire rings, picnic tables and drinking water. A golf course and museum are located nearby in Three Forks.

The park is open year-round. Popular activities include river floating, fishing, bicycling, hiking and fishing. Pets are allowed.
