RV Campgrounds near Rutland, Vermont
This historic town in the center of Vermont sits in the shadows of the Green Mountain range. Outdoor enthusiasts will find a slew of activities, including hiking trails in the Green Mountain National Forest, skiing at Killington and Pico resorts, fishing in Lake Bomoseen, Lake Dunmore and nearby rivers and streams, golf and mountain biking. Hike the Long Trail to the summit of Mount Mansfield; at 4,395 feet, it's the highest mountain in Vermont.

Lake Bomoseen Campground

Set on 33 acres, this family-operated campground sits along the shoreline of Lake Bomoseen, flanked by the rolling Green Mountains. It's about 12 miles from the center of Rutland. The property has two boat and fishing docks, a marina, camp store, outdoor swimming pool with a waterslide and whirlpool spa, bathhouses, picnic areas and fire pits. Both open and wooded RV sites are available, with water and 30-amp electrical service or water, 30-amp electrical service and sewer hookups. Pull-through sites, with full hookups and 50-amp electrical service, are also available. Campers can rent power boats, canoes or kayaks. Fishing for trout, bass, northern pike and other freshwater species is popular in nearby lakes, rivers and streams.

Dorset RV Park

Camp in the shadows of the Green Mountains of Vermont at this family-owned RV park, located about 20 miles from Rutland. The property has RV sites with water and electric or full-hookup sites with either 30- or 50-amp electrical service. Sites include free Wi-Fi. There are bathrooms and showers, a game room, small camp store with firewood, LP gas and ice, dump station, guest laundry and playground. The campground hosts a variety of planned activities during the summer season, including potluck dinners, group cookouts and bonfires.

Kampersville

This bustling campground sits on the shores of Lake Dunmore in Salisbury, Vermont, about 20 miles from Rutland. The resort won the "Rutland Herald" Best of the Best Readers' Choice Award in 2009 and includes two pools, a miniature golf course, country store, snack bar and pizza parlor, recreation room, video arcade, softball, basketball and volleyball fields and horseshoes. There's a sandy beach on Lake Dunmore, and boat rentals are available. Fishing for trout, salmon, pike, bass and other freshwater catch is popular. There are more than 200 sites, including full hookups. Nearby are hiking trails, including the trail to Silver Lake; Cascade Falls is less than five minutes away.
