Montgomery County is located in southeast Texas and incorporates the town of Houston. The county received its name for the city of Montgomery, which is one of the oldest in Texas. Although urbanized around Houston, the area still holds a wealth of outdoor recreational opportunities. Sam Houston National Forest, Lake Houston and Conroe, offer opportunities to hike, fish, boat and view wildlife. RV campers will find many choices when it comes to camping in this area.

Forest Retreat RV Park

Forest Retreat RV Park is located approximately 30 miles north of Houston in New Caney. The park offers a country setting on 25 acres of large trees. There are 189 sites offering 20/30/50-amp service, sewer, water, cable TV and free Wi-Fi. Sites are large enough to accommodate pull-throughs or back-ins. Pets are accepted and the park offers a pool, bathrooms, showers, picnic area, laundry facility, horseshoes, playground and shuffleboard courts. Some sites are handicap accessible. The park is approximately one mile from Lake Houston where anglers and boaters can fish for largemouth and white bass. Located approximately eight miles south is the 300-acre Mercer Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, where visitors can view wildlife or watch birds and visitors can canoe on Spring or Cypress Creek.

Country Place RV Park

North of Houston, located in Cut N Shoot is Country Place RV Park. The park, situated on 40 acres in a pine forest, is near Lake Conroe. Campsites are spacious, accommodating both pull-throughs and the largest rigs and are surrounded by a hammock of large oaks and pines. Sites are full hook-up, including water, sewer, 20/30/50-amp service, picnic tables, patios, grills and fire rings. The park has a tent area away from RV's and rental cabins, with pets accepted. The park has a camp store, laundry facility, pool, restrooms, showers, game and exercise room. Anglers will appreciate the park's three stocked ponds with bass, catfish and perch, as well as the lighted fishing pier. Approximately six miles from the park is the 160,000-acre Sam Houston National Forest, where hikers can enjoy the 128-mile long Lone Star Hiking Trail. Anglers can fish in the forest and wildlife-viewing opportunities are abundant.

Lake Conroe/Houston North KOA

Located in Montgomery, the Lake Conroe/Houston North KOA offers RV and tent sites, as well as rental cabins, with pets accepted. There are 238 sites offering water, 50-amp service, cable TV, Wi-Fi and telephone hook-ups for a charge. Maximum length for RV's is 80 feet. The park has a laundry facility, restrooms, showers, LP gas, pool, hot tub, public pay phones, pavilion, campfire area and pet walk. The park is approximately one mile from the 21,000-acre Lake Conroe, offering boat launches, freshwater fishing, swimming, water sports, picnic area and chances to view wildlife. The Sam Houston National Forest is located approximately 15 miles away, where outdoor enthusiasts can hike, fish, or view the area's wildlife.
