The Most Comfortable Ski Boots

The Most Comfortable Ski Boots
Finding a well-fitted ski boot can mean the difference between a pleasurable day out on the slopes and a miserable experience with lots of foot pain. Many different factors come into play when trying to find a comfortable ski boot, including choosing a boot that matches the width of your foot, sizing the length properly and getting the liner boots heat molded. Additionally, choosing a good flex is an important factor; more flexible boots will be more comfortable, as long as they are not too soft for your skiing style.

Surefoot Custom Boots

Getting a custom boot is the surest way to find a comfortable ski boot. Surefoot uses a multistep process to ensure their customers get the best fitting, most comfortable boots. After building an orthotic based on a computer-generated map of your foot, the orthotic is placed in the shell, and the customer puts the foot inside. A gel foam is then injected around the foot to create the liner boot. Surefoot Custom Boots are available in a variety of styles. The men's Super Blaster ($845), and women's Exclusive ($795) are available in a variety of flexes for recreational and expert skiers alike to get the best boot for their skiing style.

Full Tilt Konflict

The Full Tilt Konflict ($599, 2010 prices) is a three-buckle boot that offers a surprising amount of control and is suited to aspiring freeride skiers wanting a comfortable boot with a lot of performance. The Intuition Liner made by Scarpa is one the best commercial inner boots and once heat molded feels like an extension of your feet. The Konflict is a stiff boot, rated at an eight, and has a thinner shell, making it much more lightweight than standard ski boots.

Salomon Impact

The Salomon Impact ($299 to $599, depending on flex, 2010 prices) is available in several different flexes so that it can work with everyone from recreational skiers to hard chargers. Recreational skiers will enjoy the Impact 7, and all mountain experts will prefer the stiffer Impact 9 and 10. Salomon's revolutionary Custom Shell technology allows the user to customize the fit of the shell to their foot. The liner boot is heat moldable, allowing the skier to get a more custom fit throughout the boot.
