Sidi Ergo 2 Carbon Lite
Designed for the high-mileage cyclist, Sidi's Ergo 2 Carbon Lite bicycle shoe ($420 as of 2010) is a showcase of design. The most noticeable difference between the Ergo 2 is that has three types of fasteners--Velcro near the toebox, a Boa-like tension system for instep security, and ratchet buckle at the top for an extremely precise fit that is adjustable on the fly. Dave Osborne of Roadcycling.com said that "I was grateful for the nearly infinite adjustments to achieve the best fit ever," and added that "the fit is the best I've experienced."
Specialized S Works
Weighing in at a svelte 470 g per pair, Specialized claims that its S Works road cycling shoe ($350 as of 2010) is the lightest road shoe with a mechanical closure. The S Works utilizes a synthetic leather upper, a nearly seamless interior, and copious amounts of mesh to provide comfort on long rides. Additionally, the S Works features a strong yet lightweight carbon plate and a micro-adjustable Boa lacing system. Calling these shoes a "total win," BikeRadar.com's James Huang said the S Works "have proven to be a fantastically light, supportive and efficient pair of shoes."
Lake's CX 410 CFC
Made for triathletes, Lake's CX 410 CFC bicycling shoe ($400 as of 2010) is a solid combination of comfort and performance. The shoe is designed for a heat molded custom fit--heat up the shoe in your oven, then put it on to mold the shoe to your foot for a perfect fit. TriGearReview.com's columnist called the CX 410 "the best tri shoes I've used," citing that he'd finally found the "light, stiff, comfortable (when sockless), form fitting tri shoe" that he'd been dreaming of.
