Ski Vacations in the North Conway, New Hampshire Area
North Conway, New Hampshire, at the base of the Mount Washington Valley and White Mountain National Forest, is one of the destination areas for outdoor adventurers in the east. Popular activities included rock climbing on Cathedral Ledge and Whitehorse, ice climbing on Frankenstein and Mount Washington, kayaking on the Saco River, hiking, and more. North Conway is also an ideal base camp location for alpine skiers, with four major resorts within a 15-mile drive of the town, including Wildcat, with its stunning views of the eastern cirques of Mount Washington.

Attitash

Attitash is approximately a nine mile drive to the northwest of North Conway. The area has skiing on two separate peaks: Attitash and Bear Peak. Attitash has a 1,750 foot vertical drop, a peak elevation of 2,350 feet, 11 lifts, and 78 trails. The terrain breakdown is 20 percent beginner, 47 percent intermediate, and 33 percent expert. Attitash receives annual snowfall of 155 inches, and is generally open from November to April. The Attitash Grand Summit Hotel and Conference Center is located at the base of Bear Peak, with 143 rooms, a year-round heated outdoor pool, spas, and a fitness center. For those who would rather stay in town, the Kearsage Inn and Eastern Slope Inn are on the north side of North Conway, making the drive to Attitash simpler.

Cranmore

Cranmore is the only ski area that is actually in North Conway, and not outside it. The area is small, with nine lifts and 43 trails. The peak elevation is 2000 feet, and it has a vertical drop of 1,200 feet. Cranmore has 36 percent beginner terrain, 40 percent intermediate terrain, and 24 percent expert terrain. Cranmore also offers night skiing every Saturday night. Several North Conway hotels offer "Ski and Stay" packages with Cranmore, including the 1785 Inn, the Briarcliff Motel, and the Cranmore Inn.

Wildcat Mountain Ski Area

Wildcat Mountain Ski Area is the big ski area in North Conway, about 15 miles north of the town and directly across the highway from Mount Washington. Wildcat also has views of the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The summit of Wildcat is at 4,062 feet, and the mountain has a respectable 2,112 foot vertical drop. The mountain has four lifts and 47 trails. The terrain is 25 percent beginner, 45 percent intermediate, and 30 percent expert. Every Wednesday, Wildcat offers two-for-one skiing. Thursdays are Ladies' Days, with discounted skiing for women, and you can ski for free at Wildcat on your birthday. Several hotels in North Conway have "Ski and Stay" packages with Wildcat, including the Buttonwood Inn and the Covered Bridge House.
