Although Riverdale, in the Bronx, is part of New York City, there are outdoor recreational opportunities nearby. Van Cortlandt Park, a 1,146-acre oasis situated in the northwest corner of the Bronx, offers playing fields, a freshwater lake, playgrounds and a public golf course. Other golf courses in the area include Dunwoodie Golf Course in Yonkers and Pelham/Split Rock Golf course on Shore Road.

Ginger Grill

An Asian-style steakhouse, the Ginger Grill, is located in the heart of Riverdale. Restaurateur Jeff Kabak created the restaurant with an eye to providing well-prepared kosher Chinese cuisine, Asian-style steaks and continental dishes. Traditional Chinese recipes are enhanced with spices and offered with interesting presentation. Ginger Grill is part of the "kosher revolution" presenting fine kosher food of high quality in a comfortable atmosphere at moderate prices. Specialties include favorites such as cashew chicken, mu shu beef with pancakes, stir fried string beans and chicken satay. For side dishes, choose from lo mein, chow fun and pad Thai. A children's menu is available. Ginger Grill is under the supervision of the va'ad Harabanim of Riverdale.

Liebman's Delicatessen

Family-owned Leibman's Delicatessen has been a landmark restaurant in Riverdale since 1953. The restaurant offers authentic Jewish delicatessen cuisine. Specialties include corned beef, pigs in blankets, traditional round knishes and homemade pastrami rubbed with pepper, sugar and salt. Combination sandwiches like brisket, pastrami, cole slaw and Russian dressing are popular menu items. For an entrée, diners will enjoy roasted chicken and rib-eye steak.
