Jefferson is a small town in northeast Texas. It attracts visitors due to its quaintness, with horse-drawn carriages, historic buildings and brick streets. For those wanting to enjoy the outdoors, however, nearby Lake O' the Pines is the area's popular attraction. The lake has three different campgrounds, one of which is open year round. At the lake, you will find opportunities for fishing, swimming, boating and even hiking, making it the ideal location to visit for outdoor enthusiasts.

Buckhorn Creek Campground

Buckhorn Creek Campground is located on beautiful Lake O' the Pines. The park has 57 sites, all with water and electricity hookups. Other facilities at Buckhorn Creek include a dump station, hot showers and grills. Amenities include a playground and a boat launch ramp, which, of course, makes it the ideal place for those looking to spend some time boating. Fishing is available as well as swimming. In addition, there are numerous hiking trails to explore. Buckhorn Creek is open from March 1 until September 30.

Johnson Creek Camp

Johnson Creek Camp is another popular camping site set next to Lake O' the Pines. It is the largest campground in the immediate area, with 95 sites in total. Of the 95 sites, 63 have water and electricity hookups, 10 have just electricity hookups, and the remaining 22 have no hookups and are for tent camping only. Electricity hookups are 30 amps at the camping area. In addition, there are 12 pull-throughs, a dump station and a small convenience store. Other amenities include a playground, a swimming beach and a boat ramp. In addition to being the largest campground on Lake O' the Pines it is also the only one that is open year round. It's location offers ample opportunities for lake fishing, hiking and boating.

Alley Creek Park

Alley Creek Park is located on Lake O 'the Pines in nearby Avinger. The park has 64 sites in total. Of those sites, 49 have water and electricity hookups (30 amps) while 15 have no hookups. In addition the park has two pull-throughs, a dump station and grills. Other amenities include a pavilion and a playground. Alley Creek Park is open from March 1 to September 30. The park is located close to a boat ramp perfect for boating activities and lake fishing. Predominant species in the area include largemouth bass, flathead catfish and sunfish. Swimming is also available at the lake.
