Dalton, in the mountains of northern Georgia, is a central location for RV campers seeking to enjoy the rugged countryside. The ridges to the north of town are historic hiking sites, as they were once the front lines for the Confederate defense against Sherman's march on Georgia, while the bloody battleground of Chickamauga is only 15 miles away. Situated about 15 miles south of Dalton's center, the Calhoun KOA offers a mix of accommodation options, including RV and tent camping, rental cabins and rooms in their lodge. Holiday Trav-L-Park Chattanooga

The Holiday Trav-L-Park is less than 15 miles north of Dalton and has 170 gravel RV sites with full hookups (30- and 50-amp electricity) and Cable TV connections. The largest sites are 70-foot pull-through. There are also basic cabins and more luxurious cottages available for rent. The facilities include a camp store, free WiFi at the park office, a swimming pool, coin laundry and shower house.

Fort Mountain State Park

The 3,712-acre Fort Mountain State Park is 10 miles to the west of Dalton. The campground offers 70 sites with full hookups and Cable TV connections, picnic tables and barbecue grills. The park itself has a 17-acre lake with a swimming beach and fishing boat and canoe rentals; 14 miles of hiking trails, 17 miles of mountain biking trails, a miniature golf course and horseback riding facilities.
