Macon is one of the largest cities in Georgia, situated in the center of this southern state. The region surrounding Macon consists of rolling hills to the north and flat plains to the south. There are several decent options available to those looking for campgrounds in and around Macon, Georgia. Visitors can choose from regular tent sites or RV parks at a couple of scenic locations.

Tobesofkee Recreation Area

The Tobesofkee Recreation Area features some of the most beautiful campgrounds in the region, located approximately 10 minutes by car to the west of downtown Macon. The Tobesofkee Recreation Area consists of three public parks with facilities for fishing, boating, camping, picnicking and swimming. Of the three parks, two have campgrounds. These are the Arrowhead and Claystone parks. Both park campgrounds offer full RV hook ups, bath and laundry facilities, charcoal grill stations and picnic tables. Some camp sites have scenic views of Tobesofkee Lake. In terms of natural beauty and quality camping, the Tobesofkee Recreation Area is one of the best spots near Macon.

Dames Ferry Park

Dames Ferry Park is another nice campground located on the eastern banks of Lake Juliette. This camping facility is just 15 miles north of Macon. Dames Ferry Park has full RV hook ups with water and electricity as well as grills and small picnic tables. Guests can take hot showers at the communal bath house and make use of the central picnic pavilion. There is also a nearby boat launch for those who want to go out on the water. Dames Ferry Park can be reached easily from the main highway, making it a convenient place to stay when passing through Macon.

L&D RV Park

Campers in search of something simple and affordable should consider the L&D RV Park. This is a no-frills campground with full RV hook ups and a basic but clean bathhouse. The park is located in a pastoral setting between Macon and the town of Forsyth. There are gravel roads connecting the camp sites. Campers can swim at the small on-site pool or eat at the covered picnic pavilion. The L&D RV Park has a tiny convenience store, and shops like Wal-Mart as well as several restaurants are also nearby.
