Named after the Huron Indians, Huron was established in 1879 as a result of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad. Today it is home to South Dakota State Fairground and hosts numerous annual festivals and events. Located along the James River, Huron offers many recreational opportunities including local golf courses, parks and walking trails. Fishing, boating, swimming and hunting are also popular among residents and visitors alike. When traveling to Huron in an RV, you will find several RV campgrounds in the area from which to choose for your visit.

Memorial Park

Memorial Park is approximately 61 acres and is located along the James River. The on-site campground has 24 sites with 30- or 50-amp full hookups and features a bathhouse with showers. The park boasts a golf course, swimming pool, playgrounds, baseball diamonds, a paved walking trail and offers pedal boat rentals. Tent sites are also available. Fishing, swimming and golfing are popular activities for visitors.

South Dakota State Fairground

Open all year, the South Dakota State Fairground has more than 1,200 campsites with water, sewer and electricity. It features restrooms, dump stations, and storm shelters. Visitors to the campground typically enjoy events at the Fairground including the South Dakota State Fair, Wheel Jam, SD Outdoor Expo, SD BBQ Championships, and livestock events. Tent sites are also available.

Shady Rest Park

Shady Rest Park is located along the banks of Lake Byron, just 15 minutes northeast of Huron and has eight sites with full hookups. Lake Byron is one of the top walleye lakes for fishing in the state and visitors can enjoy boating, water skiing, hiking and swimming.
