Within just a few miles of the RV parks, campgrounds and resorts in Grant, New Mexicom are hours of outdoor recreation potential. Those who enjoy hiking and biking will find plenty of places to go and things to do around this area of New Mexico. The Gooseberry Spring Trail is a six0mile-long hike that provides views of volcanic craters and vast panoramas stretching for dozens of miles. The Nagaeezi mountain bike trail provides a two-wheel tour through a legendary Pueblo area of Chaco Canyon.

El Malpais National Monument is close by and offers many hiking trails and the chance for strenuous caving.

Grants Cibola Sand KOA

Grants Cibola Sands KOA offers paved and gravel roads to get you to the 42 sites. The full hookup sites here offer water, sewer, cable TV and 30/50 amp electricity. Of the 42 sites, 36 are pull-through. Facilities include bathrooms, showers, laundromat, a camping kitchen and snack bar. This Grants RV campground includes an enclosed rec hall, playground for the kids and a game room. About an hour away in Cibola National Forest is the 11,000-feet-high Mt. Taylor, which offers the chance for some serious climbing. The hiking and biking trails inside El Malpais National Monument are just 45 minutes away from this KOA. The two-mile-long Headland Trail at El Morro National Monument Park is a little more than an hour away.

Lavaland RV Park

Lavaland RV Park offers full hookup sites including water, sewer and cable TV with both pull-through and back-in capability. You can also opt for one of the partial hookup sites. These sites are well-shaded from the New Mexico sun, and facilities include bathrooms and showers. This Grants RV park is located right across the street from the Northwest New Mexico Visitors Center where you have access to all kinds of information about recreation in the area. It is just a quick 14-mile trip from Lavaland to the trails at El Malpais. A 25-mile road trip will take you to the fascinating Ice Caves, where you can tour what is actually a collapsed lava tube.
