Silverton, Colo., is a former silver mining town in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. Mountain biking, hiking, rock-climbing, fishing, rafting, kayaking and backpacking are all found in the surrounding country of Silverton. The Silverton Mountain Ski Area offers lift-assisted mountain biking in summer as well as skiing in winter. For railroad fans and buffs, the Silverton-Durango Railroad is found in the area and is one of North America's last remaining narrow-gauge railroads. RV travelers have several options for camping.

Silver Summit RV Park

RV travelers staying at the Silver Summit have full hookups (water, sewer and 30- or 50-amp electric) as well as free Wi-Fi and options for cable TV. There is a hot tub, bathroom, shower facility and laundromat on the premises for guest use. Pets are allowed if leashed. Guests can find hiking in the surrounding San Juans, where wildflowers such as columbine and chocolate-lillys can be viewed, and wildlife like black bears, red fox, coyotes and rock mountain goats are frequently spotted.

A & B RV Park

The A & B offers RV camper sites with hookups that include either 30- or 50-amp electric, water and sewer. Guests may use the Wi-Fi for free at A & B. There are showers, private toilets, picnic areas and fire-rings, a laundry room and sites to accommodate larger RVs. Pets are allowed if leashed. The 5.3-mile Clear Lake trail is within a 30-minute drive and offers mountain biking and hiking options.

Molas Lake Campground

Molas Lake Campground offers "dry" primitive campsites to small and large RVs, and can accommodate tent campers. RVs should be self-contained with gray-water systems. Pets are allowed but should remain leashed. Tent sites are level and have access to fresh drinking water. Sites have fire-rings and picnic tables, however, guests should check with management prior to having fires to see if there are any current restrictions or bans. There is a lake on-site for fishing, biking and walking paths, and a stream. There is a dump station on the grounds for RV guest use.
