Situated along the shores of Lake Superior, Bayfield is the Gateway to Madeline Island and the Apostle Islands, a national park that comprises the northern-most point in Wisconsin. It is an active arts community that boasts a historic downtown with boutiques, local restaurants and a marina. Orchards and berry farms are plentiful in the area; Bayfield's annual Apple Festival draws over 60,000 people to this small lake town. Sea-kayaking and fishing in Lake Superior's glacial waters, and hiking and biking in the surrounding dense forest make this a destination for recreation enthusiasts.

Buffalo Bay Campgrounds and Marina

Located three miles north of Bayfield, Buffalo Bay Campgrounds and Marina is situated along the banks of Lake Superior in the heart of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Reservation. The campground has 50 full-hookup sites (30 or 50 amps) and features restrooms with showers, boat slips, a public boat launch and a beach. Pets are welcome. With an on-site marina for boats and kayaks, this seasonal park serves as the launching point for many visitors' trips across the bay to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.

Apostle Islands Area Campground

Just southwest of Bayfield, off Highway 13, Apostle Islands Area Campground offers 60 full-hookup sites (30 or 50 amps), coin-operated showers, cable TV, free Wi-Fi Internet and a small playground. Log cabin and tent sites are also available. Within one mile of the campground, travelers can find the Apostle Island National Lakeshore Headquarters, a ferry to Madeline Island and Big Bay State Park, the local fish hatchery and five marinas that draw boaters, sailors and kayakers. Hiking, biking and golfing are other activities available in the area.

Dalrymple Park

This city-owned and -managed park sits on a heavily wooded property on the shore of Lake Superior just about a mile north of downtown Bayfield. The 30 no-frills sites come with electric service and vault toilets. It is a rustic park that offers expansive views of the lake.
