Campgrounds on Rifle River in Sterling, Michigan
Sterling, Michigan, is located near the end of the Rifle River, where it empties into Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron. It is close to several campgrounds and convenient to boating, canoeing, kayaking and hiking in the area. Sterling is close to several other towns on the river, including Omer and Standish, which provide a corridor to the lake.

Riverview Campground

Taking up more than a mile along the banks of the Rifle River, the 120 wooded acres of the Riverview Campground in Sterling border a state forest. As a result, tubing, canoeing and kayaking are among the activities directly available to guests. Canoes and kayaks can be rented nearby. Hiking and biking trails are nearby. This campground offers volleyball, playgrounds and a recreation center. The newest bathroom facilities were completed in 2009, and a laundry is on-site as well. Rentals include campsites, RV sites--with seasonal hookups for long-term guests--as well as camping cabins.

Rippling Waters Campground

A quiet, wooded bend of the Rifle River is home to this campground, which offers kayak, canoe and tube tours of the area, including rentals and bus transportation. More than 100 campsites are available, including seasonal sites, RV camping and rustic tent sites. All sites are either close to or along the river. On-site sundries are available at the camp store. The facility also offers hiking trails, modern restrooms, horseshoe pits and a playground. Lake Huron--and its marinas and water sports opportunities--are a few miles away.

Big Bend Family Campground

This campground is located two miles from Saginaw Bay. More than 100 camping sites are near or along the river, and the campground offers an on-site swimming lake as well as a community center, camp store and modern bathroom facilities. Kayak and canoe rentals, golf, shopping and restaurants are within 10 miles. Campsites offered include rustic tent sites and fully-equipped RV sites.
