Chinese Restaurants in Skokie, Illinois

Chinese Restaurants in Skokie, Illinois
Skokie is a suburb along the northwestern edge of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois. The roughly 10-square-mile city is home to 49 parks, according to the Skokie Park District, which was awarded the "Distinguished Agency Award" by the state on Jan. 30, 2010. In between visits to the numerous parks--or while strolling around the charming town--visitors can stop in to sample authentic cuisine for lunch or dinner at one of Skokie's many Chinese restaurants.

New China Restaurant

New China is a long-standing Cantonese restaurant in Skokie, with recipes that have been served for more than 50 years, according to its website. New China offers half orders from all of its main dishes, including non-Chinese specialties such as Mongolian beef or Filipino noodles. The exterior of New China looks uninviting, but the establishment is well taken care of inside, featuring hard wood floors, bamboo-lined booths and a marble pond filled with koi. Because New China does most of its business through deliveries, condiments come in single serving packets (even in-house), but the spices used in the kitchen are authentic. The restaurant offers lunch specials and provides free spring rolls--in ridiculous sizes--for orders of $15 or more, as of January 2010.

Marcopolo Asian Restaurant

In the southwest corner of the city, near the Emily Oaks Nature Center, Marcopolo Asian Restaurant serves everything from the traditional fried rice, eggrolls and wonton soup to pad Thai, Vietnamese black pepper beef and chicken in spicy red curry. The restaurant is also right up the street from the towering St. Peter's Catholic Church, which is definitely worth a tour. According to Chicago Metromix, Marcopolo's Chef Jacky served as top chef for a five-star hotel in Hong Kong before relocating to Chicago. As such, some unusual Hong Kong dishes have made the menu, including pork skin and black mushrooms in oyster sauce, seafood wrapped in egg whites and stewed lamb in spicy wine sauce.

Chun King Lo

There's no dining room at the Chun King Lo Chinese restaurant. In fact, it doesn't even have a sign on the storefront--but it's one of the most popular places to order delivery in the center of Skokie. Although the place looks run down, stopping by or calling in can get diners some delicious Mongolian beef, fried rice and egg pho. As of January 2010, the shop only took cash, but the prices are among the lowest in town--and the delivery fee is only $2. Almost every dish can also be made into a half-order. Chun King Lo is just northeast of Oakton Park and the Emily Oaks Nature Center, and about five blocks due south of the Evanston Golf Club.
