The shimmering Smith Mountain Lake is actually a large reservoir located in the Roanoke region of south-central Virginia. Nestled in a lush valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the area has become a veritable tourist magnet, featuring recreational activities such as fishing, swimming, sailing, motorboating, water skiing, parasailing and wakeboarding. In addition, there are numerous hotel accommodations in the area that provide convenient access to the lake.

Westlake Waterfront Inn

Considered by many travelers to be one of the area's premier accommodations, this property features stunning lakeside views, a boat launch and a dock with one slip for every room in the hotel. There is a local golf course less than one mile away, along with numerous restaurants within driving distance that provide family-style dining. Other amenities include free outdoor parking and a sunning area with deck chairs. Guestrooms are spacious and feature plush, comfortable bedding, table, chairs, microwave, mini-fridge, coffee maker, alarm clock, high-speed Internet access and cable television. There is a 48-hour cancellation policy and a two-night minimum stay on holiday weekends. This hotel does not allow pets.

Smith Mountain Dock & Lodge

This well-maintained lakeside property is opened seasonally from April through October, and features temporary or year-round boat storage, marina, gas and oil, fishing boat rentals and a launching ramp. There is a general store on the property, where guests can purchase anything from groceries to T-shirts and sunglasses to bait, tackle and other marine supplies. Additionally, there is an on-site grill-style restaurant serving burgers, pizza and salads. Room rentals are large, clean and comfortable, featuring two double beds, living area, cable television, alarm clock and kitchenette with stove, refrigerator and microwave. Deposits are required and all pets must be registered at the time the reservation is made. Children 5 and under stay free.

FoxPort Marina & Lodge

This marina proudly hosts the Optimist Club of Cave Spring Fishing Tournament and offers boat owners yearly leases for both covered and uncovered boat storage. Property amenities include free car parking, 24-hour launch ramp, tube, ski and wakeboard rentals, yearly launch passes and a full service dock selling marine supplies. Guests can also purchase sandwiches, snacks, soft drinks and beer on site. Room accommodations are well-appointed, with each one featuring two double beds, heating, air conditioning, gas grill, cable television, fully equipped kitchen and balcony with an unobstructed lake view. Rooms with three double beds are also available. Additionally, this hotel has a strict no pets policy.
