Campgrounds in Redwood County, Minnesota
The county of Redwood is located in southwest Minnesota. The county lies in the scenic Minnesota River Valley, with the Redwood River running through it as it meets the Minnesota River on the county line. This historical county has the Lower Sioux Indian Reservation located entirely within its bounds. Campers will find campsites in the area wooded and private, with an abundance of opportunities to hike, fish and view wildlife.

Alexander Ramsey Park

Alexander Ramsey Park was originally a state park and then taken over by the city of Redwood Falls. The wooded park situated along the Redwood River offers 28 campsites on a first-come, first-serve basis, that have a fire ring, water and electricity. There is also a tent area set off from the main campground and away from any RVs. The park has a picnic area, ball field, dump station and zoo, which houses bison, deer and elk. The area offers spectacular scenery with various hiking trails, scenic overlooks and a trout stream for guests to enjoy. The 1-mile Redwood Falls Challenge Bike Trail is located within the park, running from Redwood Falls to Morton. The River Valley Birding Trails also goes through the park, which runs the whole course of the Minnesota River throughout the southern portion of the state.

Gilfillan Estate Campground

Gilfillan Estate Campground was once a farm that was donated to the county. The campground is located between Morgan and Redwood Falls. The campground has 45 sites offering 50-amp electric and water. There are pull-through sites, and 20 sites are for tents only, which are secluded and private, away from RVs. The campground also has a group camping area. The campground has a wooded picnic area, bathrooms, showers, and pets are accepted. There is a historic farm located on the property that offers tours. The campground is 2 miles from the Lower Sioux Indian Reservation, where visitors can take self-guided trails throughout the area. Alexander Ramsey Park is approximately 1 mile away that has hiking trails and biking trails, fishing and bird watching.

Plum Creek Regional Park

Plum Creek Regional Park, managed by the Department of Natural Resources, is located in the southwest portion of Redwood County. The wooded, 205-acre park offers abundant opportunities for wildlife viewing and bird watching. The campground has 70 sites, which include water, electric and fire ring. The park has restrooms, showers, playground, picnic area, beach swimming on Lake Laura and an observation tower. Anglers can fish from the sandy beach. Hikers can take a leisurely hike around the lake, or hike the trail to Plum Creek. Hikers are approximately 15 miles away from Lake Shetek State Park and the 6-mile segment of the Casey Jones Trail.
